Community Practice

Michele Brody is an artist working at the intersection of sculpture, craft, and environmental installation. Her practice centers on site-specific, community-engaged projects that explore the ecological and cultural narratives embedded within landscapes. Working primarily with handmade paper, she transforms local and non-native plant materials into sculptural forms, regenerating discarded natural matter into objects that carry layered histories of place.

Brody’s process is rooted in collaboration, often partnering with local organizations, students, and community members to gather materials and share knowledge through workshops and public engagement. Her work highlights cycles of growth, decay, and regeneration while foregrounding craft as a slow, embodied, and socially engaged practice. Through these immersive installations, she invites viewers to reconsider their relationship to the environment and the unseen systems that sustain it.
